37: Tendrils
“No! Totally wrong!” Angry red lines shot over the surface of the staff as the Dark One’s thoughts berated my mind. “Focus on the target itself. Ignore the casting; you know how it’s done, just do it!”
I gritted my teeth and focused once more on the new spell the Dark One was teaching me. It was a much more powerful version of the fireball spell I already knew. I was testing it on the target in the basement that was enchanted to absorb spells, but the target was starting to get a little bit charred under the inferno the spell created. I concentrated hard on every minute detail of the target. I could see every variation in the grain of the wood, and I could sense the faint magical disturbance caused by the absorb spell. I breathed in and let the energy surge to my hand. I released the spell at the target, letting it find its own way.
A rush of heat washed over me and I heard loud popping and sizzling. As the heat subsided, I saw the impressive aftereffects. What was left of the target collapsed to the ground as its chains melted, and the paint on the wall behind it had cracked beyond belief.
“Whoa.” A rush of adrenaline pumped through me, and suddenly the world seemed like one big joke. I broke out laughing and looked at what my hands had done. The Dark Staff buzzed angrily and colors sprouted across its surface. His voice returned quietly to my mind.
“It will do for now. But you still have much to learn.” The staff calmed down, but I could tell he wasn’t pleased with my efforts. I took the staff from where it was leaning against the wall, and proceeded up to the main floor. As I was moving across the room, the staff began to glow bright blue. I looked around to see if anyone else noticed, but none of them seemed to care that the once ordinary, black staff was now emanating a powerful glow, as well as a magical field. I moved into a secluded corner of one of the side rooms, hoping not to draw attention to myself. The glow started to subside, and as it did I could feel myself being energized with magicka.
“What was that?” I sent my thought in the direction of the Dark One, but I could feel his massive amount of concentration, even through the boundaries he had put up between us. The glow faded away completely, and was replaced by the regular swirls of light deep within the staff. “Dark One? What was that?”
“The tear let loose another wave of energy. I wasn’t expecting it, so I had to catch up. That may be the way it will be, due to the unpredictability of the waves.” It sounded as if he was exhausted, but as he went on I could tell that he was recovering very quickly.
“Anything I can do to help?” I was a bit worried by the fact that he had been caught off guard.
“No, but don’t worry. I will be able to handle anything thrown our way.”
I nodded and stood up. Hunger was clawing at my stomach, so I went up to the dining area to see what I could find. I picked up a small loaf of bread and tore off a bit. I popped it in my mouth and chewed for a little while, before I realized that the loaf of bread was unusually heavy. I looked at it, and my eyes grew wide. Nestled in the loaf of bread was a thing which could only be called an abomination! It awoke and looked at me with thousands of miniature eyes. I stood frozen to the spot, and as it unfurled its tendrils and reached for my soft, unprotected skin, I began to scream…
“STOP IT!” A wave of thoughts burst through from the Dark One. “Let it go!” I released the loaf of bread before the tentacles closed around me. The Thing hit the ground and disappeared. I fell back into a chair. My mind was racing, although it was more because of the Dark One’s thoughts. “What is wrong with you? Terror was rushing through you, but there was nothing wrong!”
This puzzled me. Surely the Dark One would have seen, or at least sensed that thing! It was there, nestled in the bread like a swallow in its nest! I had seen it! Hadn’t I?
“There was nothing in the bread, Will…” Concerned tones were easily detected in The Dark One’s thoughts.
“I… I swear I saw…” I shuddered and felt my forehead. Could this be some sort of Fever dream? Or perhaps, was it something far more sinister?

The plot thickens...
Hmm. This would have been a perfect spot for Person to post some witty/dumbass comment about insanity.
-Noozooroo
I'm severley lacking some Person-ness.
Where is he?!
-Noozooroo
Shove it up your bong hole. I'm here. Insanity is easy. Being sane is the hard part.
THERE he is.
-Noozooroo
Hey...Person's name is Daniel!!!
Ha! I am a mindreader!!
Ahahahaha!! Fear me, puny mortals!!

-Noozooroo
sorry Noozoo, but you know what month it is.
which reminds me, time to get back to writing.
Yeah sorry about that. I just realized that in school today when I was thinking about your blog...
Now I look (or looked) like an ass.
-Noozooroo
[sarcasm] GEES JOO SA TAT U MAK BLOG BUT U NO RITE ANYTNG!!!![/sarcasm]
-Noozooroo
Yeah if I had more time on my hands and talent I'd write a blog too; but a straight one from the game. These fictional ones don't hold the same interest as a straight down the line one would.
im not so sure about that angelrage. Oblivion is kinda desolate in terms of story. Mostly its just "Run here, get this, run back, get reward. Rinse, Repeat."
I'm just trying to throw in a little spice. HOpefully its a good kind of spice and not like the Spice Girls... or Old Spice...
Eeww....Old Spice, Spice Girls......
Yuk.
-Noozooroo
Oh yeah, and I agree with the Oblivion storyline. It's so...f***ing....BORING.
"Look, the emperor was killed. Wow.
Here, take this to Jauffre. OK, now kill some stuff, bring this guy back. Kill more stuff, go here. Close some Oblivion gates, fight stuff, close another gate. Escort this guy here, and you've won."
Character:"Wait, but why is all this happening?!"
BethSoft Developer:"Because I said so. Bitch."
-Noozooroo
Hmm... November 17th.....
Geez, you sure picked the most interesting chapter to leave off on, didncha?
-Noozooroo
Yeah but I wouldn't even necessarily follow the main storyline. I like the thought of just going anywhere and doing anything. I read a morrowind diary of a redguard that was pretty much just exploring and doing whatever he fancied and it was excellent except it never was finished. It's located here http://home.earthlink.net/~tanstaafl/morrowind.html
Yeah. I've read that one too Angelrage. I thought it was pretty good. I hope Mindstroller gets his ass in gear. Finish your little book, and write something *hint*good*hint*.
I'll start readinng that, then.
See Mindstroller, this is what happens when you leave us alone for too long.
-Noozooroo
To Person and Anglerage, when you say that the Morrowind Diaries were never finished, did he leave off on Day 34? Because that'a how far I got before the Next Page Arrow put me back at Day 34.
-Noozooroo
And another thing:
I was following that guy's Construction Set tutorial on creating a quest and all that. But when I got to a certain point the Construction Set wouldn't let me do what he wanted me to do.
I probably shouldn't be complaining here, but what the hell. If anyone has followed that tutorial, did the same thing happen to you?
-Noozooroo
I think it was a walk across vvardenfell that was the final chapter. Sounds about right. Never used the construction set. It was just getting really interesting too. Pity arwen's diary sucks. Nothing to read on oblivion now.
Dont worry, all. Im coming back soon. Maybe very soon. We'll see.
Damn right it's gonna be soon. Grr.
-Noozooroo
Yay one more day until there is a chance that Mindstroller will post something!
-Noozooroo
20-24 hours until I might get to read a new post.
Okay.
I'm cool with that.
Seriously. *twitch*
It's fine.
I'm okay.
No voices talking to me.
None.
None at all.
AT. ALL. NO VOICES.
-Noozooroo
YAY! December 1st!
Not long until Chapter 38: Will goes fuckin' insane.
-Noozooroo
Chapter 38: *Gasp!* He's Posting regularly now!
...Nope, he's not!
In other news, my Level 6 orc just got a nice sigil stone that's feather 50 points on self...
In other news: I don't fuckin' have Oblivion anymore! Haven't for a while.
It suxxorz my soxxorz....wait, that didn't make sense.
-Noozooroo
y not? Get it back, get it back! Oblivion is great occasionally. You're not allowed to read fan fiction without the game!
I'm not? Uh oh...
*Eyes sizzle and melt*
Well, I guess I'll ned the game back before I can see again.
-Noozooroo
Hey Mindstroller, what's up?
Are you still writing your novel?
-Noozooroo

-Noozooroo
Dang, 38 comments...
*hint, hint*
-Noozooroo
Oh, sorry, 39 comments...now it's forty! Yay!
-Noozoorooo
You are not going to die, Will Syras. Just... sleep. For a very long time.
Yeah...
Frosty died (well his story ended- oh wait, he actually did die!), Arvil Bren died, Victoria died (for an indetermined amount of time at least).
You said the contest was going on from November to the beginning of December....(it's Dec. 14th if perhaps your calendar and watch and computer stopped telling time and dates.)
-Noozooroo
I think that Arvil was surprised late one night by a giant, enchanted rat sent from the angry leaders of the Dark Brotherhood. (Either that or they gave him a pleasant basket of poisoned apples from Cyrodiil as a house-warming present.)
Possibly...
Or maybe the countless hostile smugglers, bandits, daedra worshippers, and other hostile people that don't respawn formed an alliance, and attacked him. He died.
But if they did that to Frosty and Sirilonwe, they would be completely screwed.
-Noozooroo
GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT!!!!!!!!!
MUST HAVE MORE BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
....
....

Seriously. I have a complete lack of Blog-ness as of late. There isn't a single one of the blogs I read that are posting!!!!!
